The Puccini ballet magnifies the tragic destinies of Giacomo Puccini’s heroines: Manon Lescaut, La Bohème, Tosca, Madame Butterfly…
It relieves the sufferings of the composer’s moving heroines, those who fled, quarrelled, were deceived or neglected, and then died out.
Intensely modern in its emotions, the music impresses from the first bars. As if drawn in, the dance rises to the height of this musical power and comes to merge the strength of these two arts in a new harmony, imagined and striking. In a sober staging, eleven dancers create a sumptuous, rigorous, energetic and sensual choreographic score.

In the lineage of Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin or Crystal Pite, choreographer Julien Lestel imposes a singular style with his resolutely modern, unique, aesthetic and powerful creations. Trained at the Ballet Dance School of the Opéra National de Paris and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris where he obtained a First Prize, Julien Lestel then worked with Rudolph Noureev who offered him to dance Cinderella at the San Carlo Theater in Naples, Then he joined the Ballets de Monte Carlo, the Ballet of the Opéra National de Paris, the Ballet of Zürich where he was hired as principal dancer and finally, the Ballet National de Marseille as a partner of Marie-Claude Pietragalla. He has worked with Noureev, Robbins, Kylian, Forsythe, Preljocaj, Roland Petit, Pina Bausch, Malandain… and danced the choreographies of Petipa, Balanchine, Neumeier, Scholz, Lifar, Ashton, Nijinsky…
As a choreographer and dancer, he accompanies actors Pierre Arditi, Marie-Christine Barrault and Macha Méril in readings of literary texts.
He then collaborated with the pianist François-René Duchâble who played on stage in several of his creations – Anastylose, Rachmaninov, Solo and Opus – as well as with the composer Karol Beffa who created the music for Corps et Âmes. He participated in the Gala des Étoiles du XXIe siècle at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées where he danced Les Âmes Frères, one of his creations. He also choreographs the dance parts of operas: Les Pêcheurs de perles, Aïda at the Opéra de Massy and Manon, as well as La Vie parisienne at the Opéra de Marseille.
The Ballet Julien Lestel was born in January 2007 at the Espace Pierre Cardin during the performance of its first choreography Les Âmes Frères. Today, it brings together eleven dancers from different backgrounds and has in its repertoire more than twenty choreographies broadcast in France and abroad in which each can reveal their singularity while remaining faithful to the modern neoclassical style which characterizes that of choreographies.
In 2018, he collaborated with Éléonora Abbagnato, Director of the Rome Opera Ballet, adapting his Puccini choreography for the dancers of the Julien Lestel Ballet and the Rome Opera Ballet.
In 2021 he produced a Web-Series of fourteen episodes The Eternal and the Ephemeral, in collaboration with Alexandra Cardinale – choreographies produced at the Rodin Museum, the Paris Museum of Modern Art and the Quai Branly Museum – Jacques Chirac.
Julien Lestel is committed to a policy of awareness-raising actions. He meets all kinds of audiences during educational projects and choreographic workshops. For example, in schools from kindergarten to high school, with adolescents suffering from autistic disorders or mental disabilities as well as in prison environments, but also in residences for the elderly and hospitals.
In Marseille, he has been leading workshops since January 2023 for a group of blind and psychotic adults living in an IRSAM (Regional Institute for the Deaf and Blind of Marseille) home.
“My research is centered on the creation of fluid gestures without restraint, but also of broken movements with a break in rhythm so that the spectator can be taken towards an emotion and at the same time drawn into a dynamic where power, sensuality and poetry highlighted by the performers. »
The Julien Lestel Ballet had an exceptionally long residency at the Opéra de Massy (2012-2021). Today the Ballet receives support from the City of Marseille and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region as well as aid from foundations and private partners.
Julien Lestel is also a teacher at the National Dance School of Marseille.

During her six years of selection and training in classical and contemporary dance, she also pursued traditional schooling. Claude Bessy entrusted her with the leading roles in the Prisoner of the Caucasus and in La Fille Mal Gardée at the Palais Garnier.
In July 1993, she came out first in the Entry Competition at the Corps de Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris under the direction of Patrick Dupond. From her first year in the Opera Ballet, the latter invited her to dance “outside the walls” in his personal tours (Patrick Dupond and friends).
She was raised to the rank of Corypheus after performing the variation of Carmen de Roland Petit under the direction of Brigitte Lefèvre. She has danced all the great works of the classical repertoire: La Bayadère, Swan Lake, Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote by Rudolph Noureev, Les Ballets by George Balanchine, Roland Petit, Serge Lifar, Vaslav Nijinski, Jerome Robbins, Pierre Lacotte, Maurice Béjart… and also contemporary works: Pina Bausch, William Forsythe, Angelin Preljocaj or Wayne McGregor … chose her for their creations at the Opera.
Under the direction of Benjamin Millepied, then director of the Paris Opera, she participated in Boris Charmatz’s “20 dancers for the 20th century” event in the Grand Foyer of the Palais Garnier. She is also part of the artistic creation of visual artist Tino Sehgal.
Marie-Claude Pietragalla entrusted her with the Star role in Don Quixote at the Opéra National de Marseille.
She has taken part in international tours of the Paris Opera and galas as a guest, promoting he excellence of French ballet (Metropolitan Opera – New York, NHK – Japan, Kremlin – Russia, Kiev Opera – Ukraine, Beijing National Grand Theater and Shanghai Opera – China, La Scala de Milan, La Fenice – Venice – Italy, Vienna Opera, Singapore, Argentina, Finland, Spain, United Arab Emirates…).
Alongside her career as a dancer, Alexandra Cardinale received the Entrepreneurship and Management – Sciences -Po Paris diploma, as well as the State Diploma of Dance Professor at the National Dance Center (CND).
Alexandra Cardinale created AC Opéra Ballet Production in 2010. It presents exceptional ballet evenings such as Gala d’Étoiles, which has become a reference and an anticipated event. Also driven by contemporary creation, she dances and participates in the production of the latest choreographies of the Julien Lestel Ballet.
In 2018, Alexandra bade farewell to the Paris Opera scene after 30 years in this great institution. Since then, she has continued her career as a soloist dancer and finds her accomplishment by producing a wide variety of ballets, wishing to make everyone want to discover dance and wishing to share all the emotions aroused by this art.
Since 2023, the Étoile dancer Hugo Marchand has entrusted her with the production and realization of Les Etoiles au Château in emblematic places of French heritage in order to make dance accessible to all and to offer a prestigious stage with the Étoiles de l’Opéra from Paris.
Alexandra Cardinale never ceases to put her sensitivity and her high standards at the service of dance, its diffusion and its promotion while designing highly technical scenographic montages.

Inès Pagotto started dancing at the age of 5. From the age of 8, she participated in regional, national and international competitions. In 2015, she joined the National School of Dance of Marseille under the direction of Omar Taibei.
From 2015 to 2019, she was taught by Mireille Bourgeois, Julien Lestel, Agnès Lascombes and Marie-Claude Dubus.
In June 2019, she joined the Julien Lestel Ballet at the age of 17.

Julien Lestel Ballet
Inès Pagotto started dancing at the age of 5. From the age of 8, she participated in regional, national and international competitions. In 2015, she joined the National School of Dance of Marseille under the direction of Omar Taibei.
From 2015 to 2019, she was taught by Mireille Bourgeois, Julien Lestel, Agnès Lascombes and Marie-Claude Dubus.
In June 2019, she joined the Julien Lestel Ballet at the age of 17.

Trained at the Conservatoire de la Rochelle, she then joined the Conservatoire d’Avignon. She worked with the Compagnie Révelenscène and then Richard Digoué’s Compagnie Nyian in New Caledonia. In 2012, she joined the Julien Lestel Ballet Ballet.

After an apprenticeship in hip-hop and Latin dances where he was four times vice champion of France at the age of 11, Maxence has training followed at the School of Dance Animours in contemporary and jazz, at the Conservatory of Valence in classical, at the Olivier Coste Dance School and obtained his EAT jazz, then at the National Dance School of Marseille under the direction of Omar Taïbi. We notice it in The choreographies of A. Preljocaj and J. Lestel.
He joined the Ballet Julien Lestel in 2022.
