Music: Martín PALMERI
Lighting: Lo Ammy VAIMATAPAKO
Costumes: Patrick MURRU
Assistant Choreographer: Gilles PORTE
With the dancers of the Ballet Julien Lestel
Premiere: 2018
Duration: 45 min
Composed in 1996 by the Argentine composer Martín Palmeri, *La Misatango* is a completely renewed Mass.
It is set to tango melodies, thus weaving a connection between sacred music and the popular music of Argentine tango.
The choreography is also infused with two tones. It is imbued with deep spirituality as well as great sensuality.
The movement vocabulary alternates between iconic gestures expressing contemplation and the search for transcendence, and very carnal gestures expressing sensuality and the freedom of bodies moving in broad and powerful motions.
*Misatango* is a choreographic highlight of the original creation by the Argentine composer.
“We can easily call this a masterpiece. Julien Lestel achieves this feat by crafting a very contemporary choreography without denying the legacy of the masters who came before him.”
Danser, Paolo Fargues
MisaTango was premiered at the Opéra de Massy on May 2 and 3, 2018, with the Orchestre Pasdeloup and the Chœur Régional Vittoria d’Île-de-France, under the musical direction of Michel Piquemal.

Music: Maurice RAVEL
Lighting: Lo-Ammy VAIMATAPAKO
Costumes: Patrick MURRU
Assistant Choreographer: Gilles PORTE
With the dancers of the Ballet Julien Lestel
Premiere: 2015
Duration: 15 min
Set to the famous score by Maurice Ravel, composed for a ballet in 1928, the choreography echoes this work built around a theme and counter-theme carried by an uninterrupted orchestral crescendo.
Thanks to fluid and sensual movements, the dance responds to the music, allowing us to appreciate each dancer’s talent as well as a unified group dynamic. Inspired by Hispano-Arabic themes, the melody transports the dance into a timeless universe where the dancers are swept away by the hypnotic rhythm. Subtle and delicate at first, the movement gives way to powerful gestures driven by a collective emulation. One by one, each dancer enters this enchanting whirlwind, surrendering to a highly physical, almost carnal choreography.
“(…) a frenzied dance of bodies where jumps, sharp arm and leg movements, hip rotations, arabesques, and quick back-and-forth steps match the bursts of percussion.”
Danser, Philippe Oualid
“When the dancers of Julien Lestel’s Ballet start dancing, you wish they would never stop. They play with our emotions, and it’s a delight.”
La Provence, Aliénor Lefèvre
